FRAM Tough Guard TG16-1: High-Performance Oil Filter for Passenger Cars, 15K Mile Change Interval Review

Long mileage Fram oil filters are proven quality to protect my old engine so I only use Fram filters on my antique Dodge truck. Since this part number is no longer available locally, I get it from Revain.

Nothing special, you can buy the same filter in the store. Slightly thicker than the main fram filter. I use this one because I live on a gravel road and to keep the rocks from denting the filter. Always a fan of the simple handle at the end of fram filters.

This is the oil filter I use on my Dodge Intrepid '01. I always change the oil myself, change the oil every 3-5000 miles or every 6 months and I use the regular premium oil. My car has 265,000 miles on it and still runs like new thanks to regular oil changes and a Fram oil filter that does a great job.

3 of the last 3 Fram filters including this one (the other 2 were Fram Extra Guard Orange) quickly developed a small oil leak where the housing and inlet are pressed together making their way through the end that bolts to the engine filter boss. I bought a competitor and had no problems. This will be the last Fram product I will buy.

I'm not sure whether politics, religion or "the best oil filter" cause the hottest gear heads. Personally, I'm more of a Wix Filters fan, but after reading some of Fram's recent honest/objective (at least in my opinion) technical reviews, I decided to give it a try. Expect it to do an excellent job at "reasonable drain intervals" with "quality motor oil" (and there are a few other hot topics for the gear that I won't go into).
