Using these changed readings more than I expected. Repeated measurement of the temperature at the same distance leads to a deviation between the readings by 3-7 degrees. I didn't have a reference meter to determine if the readings were accurate.

There are many different options to choose from to measure the temperature of different objects. I wanted to see if our oven was heating up properly, and boom, I checked and it did. We also have a pellet stove and wanted to see how hot it gets. You must be careful not to let the light get into people's eyes as it may cause damage, but you may get temperature, heat or cold. This pyrometer appears to register temperatures above actual temperature for a given emissivity. I tested this pyrometer at ambient temperature and 300 degrees Fahrenheit with another pyrometer that was calibrated and accurate. At ambient temperature, the error was about 10 degrees.
