It can be used to read both room temperature and body temperature with one button that you can switch between each other depending on your use. It also has a Celsius/Fahrenheit switch. The Lo indicator lights up if you don't get close enough and it doesn't work outside as it appears to be showing an ambient temperature (it was 100 degrees outside) when I was outside before and people were checking them coming to a small gathering.
