ALLERGY TO ANTIFREEZE

Probably used 3 times! Doesn't keep antifreeze in the flask so you can't get an accurate reading! I think it's an antifreeze allergy! I would not recommend this!

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • You could have chosen a newer model

Works as described.

This replaced the exact same tester I bought in the early 80's. Of course it's not made in America anymore, it's smaller and less durable, but it works the same and shows the same readings as the old one. The bulb on the old one was rotten and cost the same as a replacement bulb, so I got the whole tester. The lamp is also replaced with an old one for comparison.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Security

Not as good as expected

Not as good as expected but works. It is difficult to read the tiers and inscriptions on the shell. The rims float but quite slowly and don't really trust the accuracy as 4 cars I tested showed the same results and it seems strange. I didn't have time to mix up several different antifreeze test solutions to make sure they all show up the same. Maybe pure water, 25% and 50% just to see how it reads.

Pros
  • Very good quality
Cons
  • Volume

Works for me - thermometer

Works great. I don't think you should expect perfection from any of these coolant testers. You won't get anything that says you have 50/50 with absolute certainty. I don't know if it's a quality issue or if it causes someone to give a low rating from every tester. I have tested plain water as 1 disc, plain coolant as 6 discs and 50/50 as 4 discs. 4 discs have good temperature coating, so it's good for me. Obviously this affects the ability of the liquid to float discs. The more liquid and less…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad

Needs repair of diagnostic, test and measurement tools

I had a Thexton tester that I bought a few years ago, but I have it among hundreds of 'things' in my garage and basement Lost track of it (since I found the original) so I ordered a new one. The new one had problems. It was sucking air around the bottom hose and top squeeze bulb, making it unusable. I put a bead of RTV silicone around the hose/body connection and the bulb/body connection and that fixed the problem, but the new item shouldn't need repairing and I have a few bucks for a new…

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • Nothing here
