Size 4 x 4 doesn't fit too tight

So the internal dimensions are very tight 3.5 x 3.5 inches. The usual 4x4 size is 3-9/16 inches, so it's too narrow. You would think there would be about 1/8 inch leeway for nominal lumber sizes? My van dispatches from where Lowe is.

Pros
  • Clean modern style
Cons
  • Durable

Not what is shown on railings and slats

This is really not what you see in the picture. The photo shows the inner layer and the outer collar. I was hoping that the inner layer would help strengthen the wood against splinters and the outer rim would be decorative, but all that arrived was the outer rim shown. It's easy to install and looks good, but it definitely doesn't do anything.

Pros
  • Internal dimensions: 3.5 x 3.5 inches
Cons
  • Operating speed

Mostly decorative railings and posts

Installed about 6 of these on my patio to better protect the base of my railing from rot. They often (slightly) cut into the racks during installation, it often requires some force and bending to connect them (halves together) and while they look good I'm not sure they offer adequate protection . There are noticeable gaps where water can still penetrate. It would have been possible with large aprons, but my railing system didn't leave much room for manoeuvre.

Pros
  • Installed before or after installing the post
Cons
  • Piggy Bank Price
