Should have bought this one first

I bought this as the cheaper one just didn't work and was smaller than I needed. This one is perfect and can use a smaller line from a cheaper one. Should have bought these first.

Pros
  • Certified GOLS
Cons
  • Unusable features

Beautiful Triple Square at Carpentry Squares

This is a very good tool. It stretches well and is well made. The 16 inch blade allows me to make 90 degree cut lines at 1X12 and I can cut almost a 45 degree line on the same wood. The level is accurate, although I would have reached a higher level.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons

Good buy for measuring and marking tools

Great for the price. I bought this because my doppelganger, Stanley Prudy, didn't have a metric. Build quality could be better, feels light and thin. I really don't think it is, but it doesn't have the satisfying beefy quality that quality measuring tools have. So works great for hobbyists. Limits for professionals.

Pros
  • High marks for tester support and durability
Cons
  • Some small things

Good value for money

I like SS steel for the rule! Much easier to read than the old rusty one. 2 improvements that make it 5 stars instead of 4.1. The second groove usually allows you to use the scale you need in the position you need it.2. 4R split option which is particularly useful for detail work and marking.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • unfashionable

Not very square for a square

I dropped and broke my perfectly square cheap unnamed combination square that I've had for 30 years so I ordered this one. With the ruler extended, it's more than 1/16 inch from the square, so it's useless to me when calibrating my table saw or miter saw. I'm keeping it for rough joinery, but I need to find another "perfect" square. .

  • Few competitors

did not last a week

what happened to the Irwin tools - this square began not to hold the rod. The slot in the rod opened up when I used the tool and eventually the side just snapped off - I used Irwin tools before but I'm not sure now - I replaced them with a cheap block that looks like this , as if it would last and is square, unlike Irwin's ever-changing junk.

Well-made precision tool

Well-made square. I now have Irwin combo squares in sizes 6", 12" and 16". I really like the quality of both the ruler and the head. Nice thick casting, well finished and the stainless steel ruler is easy to read. A little finishing on arrival to soften some of the edges of the ruler and they are ready to go For this price I have not found a better combo box anywhere.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons

Worth the handwork

This square is clearly not well made. After removing the packaging I ran a double line test and the results were as follows. promising. Upon closer inspection, the faces of the heads were not flat due to poor workmanship, leading to inaccurate measurements. I pulled out the flat glass and some sandpaper and then started smoothing the edges. After a few hours of sanding, I pulled out the double strip and it was spot on to the end. After that I applied a thin coat of mineral oil to it. While far…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
