Yes, these feel really different in the mouth: the wooden base that goes in the mouth is not as slippery-smooth as plastic. But the bristles are softer than the "soft" that plastic manufacturers advertise. However, they withstand severe but gentle brushing of teeth and gums. I don't think I'm coming back. After a short time, the toothpaste gets stuck at the base of the bristles and has to be scraped off with a thin object.

EDIT: I'll update my review. As soon as my first review was posted I was contacted by a company wanting to fix things. As I said initially, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the brushes themselves, just a personal preference that I wanted the bristles to be a bit stiffer. I repeated this to Hannah but she still insisted that they refund my money. Excellent customer service! For that I am adding another star, I love the idea of these toothbrushes! I switched to these toothbrushes so we can reduce the amount of plastic in the world. The quality is good and the softness is amazing. We use it, and when we swap our toothbrush for a new one, we certainly throw it away because even if it's thrown in the field, it composts back into the ground without harm. I buy these toothbrushes because they are also a good price that is cheaper than buying multiple plastic toothbrushes. If you want more sustainability, I can only recommend them.

I like that they don't have "soft" bristles like ANY BRAND IN STORE. I prefer medium to hard and that's exactly what I got! They are soaked in charcoal and I've definitely noticed a change in whiteness with a single use; They arrived very quickly which was another big plus and the whole purpose of buying the bamboo brushes was to get rid of plastic waste so I was delighted when the package arrived in recycled cardboard rather than plastic bubble wrap! I'm sure I've given this purchase some thought. I saw good deals on ten packs of bamboo toothbrushes with bristles filled with charcoal. When I received them I have to say that overall I am surprised and impressed. Now, I'm not an eco-freak, but I like to use natural, safe products whenever possible.
