Bad design is best in scientific kits and toys

It has good quality but poor design because it opens at the top. When the caterpillars enter the cocoon stage, they attach themselves from above. Then... you can't open it to deal with other caterpillars. Get the one that opens on the side.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • The list will go on.

Great cage for study and study

I really liked this butterfly house. This year my son and I have raised over 40 Monarch caterpillars. I would suggest getting a black mesh house - you'll see it a lot easier, trust me, but overall it was a great little cage!

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Flaw

For isolated butterfly nursery

Perfect for isolating a few butterfly pupae - anyone who raises butterflies should have a few of these little ones for emergencies. I also use the big ones. Good design, easy to attach/detach, easy to clean. (I breed black swallowtails).

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Great for growing butterflies! Highly recommended

I love everything about this butterfly farm! It's a good size for several at a time, and fits on a pupal branch or two, although monarchs seem to prefer being attached to the lid. In the first month or so I was raising oriental sailboats and monarchs with ease!

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Expandable

Great for growing butterflies!

I ordered this when I found garden herb caterpillars on the kitchen windowsill. I put a clear plastic drip tray on the bottom so it's easy to clean up afterwards. I added parsley, rue and a vine sprig. There is a lot of space in this living space. I figured the top hole would be a downside where pupae normally form. I placed the vines around the edges and any pupa formed on the vines, none at the top!

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Speed

Average at best for an amateur kid

I like the size of this popup. I wish there was a layer of plastic on the bottom. They usually call it the view page or something like that. It's just so much easier to clean and use. Now we have a praying mantis in the cage. It wasn't planned, but it was what we had on hand to make it home. It should sit on top and partially in a plastic bag from the grocery store to keep dirt, sticks, etc. from falling through the mesh. I could probably cut off a piece and stick it in myself, but that's…

AirBnB for Caterpie

One morning we found this caterpillar on a dill plant (or the stalks left over from it). Once identified, he moved into this large chain house with my nephew. He happened to watch her poop green balls (ate: caterpillar poo) and chew excessive amounts of dill, which whatever Eric Karl had to say about it was all this very hungry caterpillar was interested in. After making a doll and standing there for a while, a beautiful black sailboat appeared and was released into the backyard. Fun! One of…
