Type of review

3 of the four purchased worked perfectly. One of them doesn't work for VGA and HDMI connections. The connection occurs briefly and then breaks off or does not come about at all. Liked the rest 3. 2 immediately stopped working. Now the 3rd has retired. Not very reliable.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Negative impression

Bought for a late 2016 MacBook Pro (which only has USB-C ports) for use on my desk with multiple monitors and a wired network connection. So far my experience has been pretty good. The dock was recognized immediately and offered networking and audio options. Video ports and card readers only show up when something is plugged into them. I'm glad this product works well as an early USB-C dock. Problems I've found may be early bugs and will hopefully be fixed with updates - sound isn't always…

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Not the best

Closed one day

It came on the first day, monitor connected and everything worked fine. On the second day it stopped working, my Macbook gave me an error message that the USB port was using too much power. Since then the dock has stopped working. Mac OS doesn't recognize anything. My USB port still works as I can charge it directly.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • Not bad but...

It's getting very hot!

I managed to skip the Tripp Lite USB 3.1 return window. I wish I could be more careful with the date. This dock gets so hot I can't comfortably hold my finger on it for more than 5 seconds. This also happens when it is only connected to a laptop. When I connect USB etc it gets even hotter. Some of my USBs were not read when plugged into the docking station, but were read when plugged directly into the laptop. I had a pair that worked with both a docking station and an external USB hard drive…

Doesn't work anymore with OS X 10.13!

VGA adapter stopped working after upgrading to OS X 10.13 (Sierra High). Everything else still works perfectly. I contacted tech support and got 2 new "updated firmware" but with the same problem. I mainly use this for business presentations and bought two, one for office and one for travel, so I wasted 280.- in 6 months. Unacceptable. They should accept returns/refunds or make it work

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Disappointed with the quality

I am very disappointed with this product (U442-Dock1) from a company like Tripp Lite. I buy their surge protectors because I know they work (I once caught a surge protector in my office and protected my gear, and the company even replaced the surge protector with no problem). The first thing I checked was the owner's manual for power consumption. A company rep pointed this out to me after I told them that I need a little over 60W (to work with an Apple 61W charger) but the manual says a maximum
