Step 2 and POP - Dangerous

I have used TrippLite products for many years including another 150w inverter which I have owned for almost 10 years and use to power my laptop when traveling. During Texas Snowmageddon I realized I had to replace it. Well I bought this one. Arrived today. I went to the car with a laptop and a power adapter. instructions followed. Step 1 Connect the inverter. - Turn on CheckStep 2. - Check Never made it to step 3. Pop and smoke came out of the fan vent. The fuse remained intact. Dangerous. Toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Almost OK

If you don't mind the fan noise, this is a decent device. When the radio is on, it is usually almost inaudible. The cable is really stiff, even at 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the cable is a cheap, stiff and inflexible cable, not a super flexible, premium cold weather cable. If you buy this and install it in cold weather, expect the fork to be unfriendly stiff. I'm really considering cutting it off and replacing it with a more flexible cold weather electrical cord if I have trouble with it this

Pros
  • Great overall performance

  • Lots of stuff

works great for tools and equipment

I just experienced a power outage in my house. I pulled out the battery jumper I had and the unnamed DC/AC converter I had and tried to boot my laptop from it. It just won't work. keep honking and breaking. So I decided to try this Tripp Lite inverter. Just got it, plugged it into my laptop to charge and it started right away, no problem. I have a 400w inverter just to give me some headroom. I measured 60W DC input and 51.4W AC output, so the efficiency is 86%. Please understand that theโ€ฆ

The good and the bad

This little inverter came at the perfect time as we use 12 volt solar power to power the lights in our house and the previous inverter we bought always did blows fuses again - too big for the load. This inverter easily connects to our little solar backup panel and blows merrily to light us up in the dark. Yay! The bugs first appeared after we ran it for a day for about a week. First in the morning when starting up the fan would start making a crazy noise (which is saying something as the fan is

Tripp Lite Car Inverter 100W

Why I bought this item: I got this to install a mini camcorder on my car dashboard. The camera is my silent witness due to the fact that so many people are drunk, running red lights, ignoring stop signs, etc. And I've been hit more than once by such people, who of course then lied about what's really happening. Product: It works. A lot of things nowadays are of inferior quality to rubbish. It's not this one yet. Before buying, I carefully checked the power and voltage limits of the device. Tooโ€ฆ

A handy gadget in launchers, chargers and portable power supplies

This is a replacement for an extinct Black and Decker inverter. Poorly. I like B&D but need an inverter that works when I need it and Tripp Lite has a solid reputation for quality products. This product is a perfect example of that. As an inverter it works great. Although I haven't pushed it hard yet, it worked fine on my 150 watt computer with no fan noise. BTW I think I saw another review that said this one didn't have a fan. Oh, and never buy an inverter without a fan! The USB ports alsoโ€ฆ
