Bad fastening mechanism.

Seems like a pretty decent add-on, but the main reason someone will get their hands on this thing is its ability to clamp things, but the clamping mechanism is flimsy and barely functional. If it's tightened enough to stay in place, it's about to break. Even tightening enough to bend the clamp piece, it still comes loose when I try to pull the connector out. Also, the rubber pads on the clip fell off and I had to re-glue the rubber pieces with epoxy. Unfortunately, this is the only clip I could

Attaches very securely and saves you having to crawl under your desk

If you have a desk to attach this extender to then I highly recommend it. Gone are the days of crawling under a table to plug in a device. Once this is fixed it won't move and makes it much easier to connect and disconnect your devices. The USB ports are an added bonus and are great for charging phones and other devices. So many things come with batteries these days that it's great to have two USB ports so you can just buy a few extra charging cables without having to buy a wall charger. You…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Infinitely slow

To be clear this is a great device to use as an accessory. And to be clear, the smell of the plastic used stinks so badly in my opinion that I had to leave it outdoors in a covered, well-ventilated building for several months before the "stench" became strong enough to keep it indoors to use. I've been using this device for several months now - it works flawlessly, looks good, works as intended. But it also gives off a slightly unpleasant smell that's off-putting, especially around it, and that

Still cool after 2 1/2 years!

Updated 9/2019 - We have had the Tripp Lite 6 Outlet Surge Protector Clip Mount for 2.5 years with no problems. Came back this time to order a second for the table. I installed it on the side table between our sofa and the 2 seater sofa, our kids often unplugged it so they could either start their laptop or charge their cell phone. Then I try to turn on the light and nothing. This solved the problem, nothing needed to be unplugged anymore, you can start a laptop or whatever, use a phone charger

Started great - doesn't last long

I liked it until today. The USB ports on it are basically dead. They put out so little juice that a device connected to them doesn't register it at all. The other one I tried shows that it's getting power but not actually charging. Pros I love that it literally clips to the side of my desk so I have a handy switch and sockets for items on my desk so I can turn them all on and off with one switch and not have to crawl under the desk . It still works for all other purposes, but there are no USB…

Updated Rating: Compatibility Issues

Downgraded from my original 4 star rating due to compatibility issues. Some of our Samsung devices that charge from any other USB port will not recognize this power strip and will not charge from the built-in USB ports. That means we're losing outlets for those devices, which is far from ideal. Tripp Lite still makes a quality product in terms of safety and durability and has served me for over a year with no further issues, but it's just poorly constructed and outdated by today's standards.…
