great for examining 35mm contact sheets in detail

This magnifier is very powerful and allows me to see the details of expressions etc on a 35mm contact sheet which I do otherwise not even could with a good 8x magnifying glass.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Good quality glass lens with plastic frame

I use it for film photography and while it's not big enough to cover a 35mm negative it's big enough for me to do that adequately assess the image. For the price I find it unbeatable. I have a pair that I keep in different places.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Good optical quality at a low price

This Japanese-made loupe works about as well as my trusty Agfa 8x loupe, which is probably over 40 years old. The accompanying documentation states that the lenses are plastic. I bought this so I could look at the tiny electronic parts (SMT resistors) at the store so I could leave the Agfa at home.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Expandable

Nice but still magnifier

Very decent magnifier at a good price, an improvement over the very old Agfa I had. The only problem is that I bought it to help me look through LOTS of old contact sheets and I think I've finally figured out that regular magnifying glasses just aren't the best tool for the job. You get a nice, compact zoom, but they have to touch the paper and your eye has to touch the strap most of the time (uncomfortable), and unless you're in a well-lit area your view is severely limited. I ended up buying…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
