Description of Tusk 17 8668 Crankcase Splitter

The Tusk crankcase splitter is a must for disassembling vertically split 2- and 4-stroke crankcases. It makes crankcase disassembly easy by safely pushing the crank assembly out of the case halves. Adjustable arms permit it to be used on a variety of bolt patterns. Both 8mm and 6mm mounting bolts are included.

worked well for my 05 CRF-250R

This tool comes with everything you need and easy instructions. It appears to be made of quality materials. It really simplified the recovery process. It's always nice to have the right tool for the job.

  • Pretty impressive

Great tool for the money

This is a very good specialty tool. I used it to split my old Husqvarna 250 cases and it worked flawlessly. The instructions are brief but if you know what you are doing the points within will help you use your log splitter safely without damaging your cases or tools.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Not the best

The right tool makes the job easier.

Excellent workmanship and finish. Its versatility is also its weak point, as it requires quite a bit of manual dexterity to slip the pins through the levers and position the levers properly so the tool is centered over the end of the crank, but once positioned correctly becomes impossible just work.

Pros
  • Pleasing
Cons
  • Out of fashion

He clicked: Engine

Would give one star but I'm a big fan of tusks. The photo shows that the hand is broken. Maybe I didn't use it properly but after reading some reviews I'm not the only one with this problem so who knows. Would love to try a different one and try again but I can't return it at the moment and I won't buy another just to waste money.

Pros
  • Build Quality
Cons

Don't waste your $$

First of all I would give this tool negative stars if possible. I, like many others, ignored all the bad reviews about broken sweats. It was a big mistake. The weld on the forearm broke on the first attempt to remove the crankshaft. It looks like a solid tool beyond the TERRIBLE welds that didn't even penetrate and broke immediately. At this point I'll probably take it badly to the welding shop and they will actually weld the arms properly.

Pros
  • Best in Niche
Cons
  • Communication with Seller

The arm broke on the first attempt to use it.

I tried this tool for the first time today. Followed the included instructions on T. I was only doing about 3 or 4 turns when suddenly one of the welds on the arm broke and the arm fell off. That's why I give it a low rating. I messaged the seller to see if they would send a new one as I suspect it was a bad weld. Just take a look. Maybe if I buy a new one and it works as it should I'll raise my rating, but so far I'm not happy.

Pros
  • Multiple competitors
Cons
  • Compatibility
