Best SDI Capture: Video Converter

Definitely the best SDI capture I have ever used. It works seamlessly with VLC Media and unlike other products does not require any special software to view or record SDI video.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Good but not great

Great box works as advertised

Purchased to use a professional conference room camera for Zoom and Skype meetings. Works perfectly. Plug a microphone into the camera and the audio embedded in the SDI output connects to the computer like a webcam, but looks a lot better. It's worth the money and works great.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Some issues

Reliable quality product

Like all other AJA products I use this unit is solid and well built. I use it several times a week, both in the studio and remotely, to convert HD SDI to streaming platforms like Zoom and StreamYard. I use it for both broadcasting and organizations - for the main audience where quality is important.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Compatibility

AJA in the Zoom Broadcast Flypack

The AJA U Tap is a great video capture device. I have used AJA products many times in the past and have never been disappointed. We have this particular unit in a custom made portable flypack for a Zoom conferencing system with a 4K broadcast switcher, 20 x video routers, 30 x 4K PTZ cameras and a Dante-enabled rackmount audio mixer with RF mics and in-ear -Headphones used. To enable our client to improve the quality and production value of their Zoom meetings and streaming.

Pros
  • Outstanding Overall Performance
Cons
  • Clarity

Doesn't support 1080i as described

The description says YouTube supports 1080i. I even called AJA Technical Support and asked "Does YouTube support 1080i60 or 1080i59.94?" and the answer I got was "Should". I'm working with an existing system that outputs 1080i59.94. Utap was able to swallow the video, but the motion was extremely jerky and the device locked up every few minutes. I also noticed that it gets quite hot after just an hour of use. The Blackmagic Intensity Pro was almost half the price and far superior to this unit…

Pros
  • Bus Powered by USB 3.0
Cons
  • Expensive

DOES NOT SUPPORT SONY F5/F55 PSF OUTPUT

Can't say for sure if this unit works well but it seemed well built and easy to use. However, after using two of these devices on our PMW-F5 and both devices not working, it became clear that they would never work with this camera. The SDI channel of these devices does NOT support PSF (Progressive Segmented Frame) as a signal. PSF is similar to the older in-between version of interlaced and progressive. AJA support was helpful both times, I wish the original call realized what was going on…

Pros
  • Supports Mac and Windows with Linux coming soon
Cons
  • Piggy bank price
