I think it works. You never know a surge protector is working until a surge occurs. That's good insurance for my expensive router and outdoor POE antenna. I would have liked a more secure seat. A screw on the back is a bit annoying.

They use GDT (Gas Discharge Tube) components to absorb surges, which is common as the first line of defense against surges caused by lightning. I would suggest a faster device like the APC PNET1GB as a second line of defense after you run the cable into your building.
