Poor design for jigsaw puzzles

There were many problems in assembling. There is nothing in the design to keep the gears in the right place. The toothpicks are not long enough to fit between the frames. I had to do a lot of adjustments and custom toothpicks to make it work. The set is not for beginners.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • A few minor things

Fun project! on 3D Puzzle

Bought this as a Christmas present for my 9 year old son. He loved it! He needed a lot of help to 1) stay on track (there are a lot of stages) and 2) use the toothpicks as axes, but he really enjoyed putting it all together and watching all the gears work together. Great project!

Wow, they move! Best at 3D Puzzles

First bought and ordered for gifts. The recipients said that working on it requires a lot of attention and time, which is what I was hoping for. Sticks (toothpicks) are very easy to break. This is perhaps the only negative. The manufacturer must facilitate the separation of parts from sheets and provide additional sticks.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Requires socket

Toothpicks are bad for the axles

The gear train is set in after the shell has been crushed, resulting in an absurd amount of effort required to keep all seven axles from slipping out of their respective holes or worse nor break tip of a toothpick. Very little guidance is given on how to properly align the gears and no information at all is given on how to add a rubber band reverse drive. Stronger toothpicks would be nice, but a design that doesn't require trying to pinch them. in general it would be better. At least when…

Painful toothpicks.

Well, first of all it's fun. But, but the toothpick is really easy to break. Sometimes when I want to press it, it breaks. It's so annoying. Some small parts are also easy to break. I can't push too hard but everything seems in dire need of lube. Although I put enough wax on almost all parts, it didn't help much. Finally, all the toothpicks connecting left and right don't seem to be long enough. I've been trying to replace a bunch of broken toothpicks for a long time. Seriously, I'd rather use…

Pros
  • Makes you happy
Cons
  • Volume

This is the gift my husband chose for himself. He collects it now. So far it's taken 4 hours and he's done just over halfway through. I suggest buying extra toothpicks (obviously), maybe pliers and band-aids if the wood breaks in your fingers lol. At this point he's pretty excited because the instructions show how to put the gears in after the main frame is fully assembled. This makes it difficult to avoid falling apart, and because of this, the gears don't line up perfectly (resulting in the…

Nice set, except for the terribly cheap toothpicks!

We have built several of these Ugears kits and as we live in the country thought it would be great. I just spelled it "wrong". as others have pointed out, the standard imported restaurant toothpicks (still in individual cellophane wrappers) are a really cheap excuse for all the fixings/axes. There is no quality control on the toothpicks, leaving you with a completely random selection of toothpicks in actual sizes, diameters, lengths and most importantly, quality. Some break when attempting to…
