Toothpicks click into the gears.

I have built many of their models and as mentioned toothpicks break very easily. I started grinding toothpicks just to fit them. Until finally I got a click in 3 places where it was stuck deep in a gear that can't be removed and therefore can't replace the toothpick that should be there. All previous models I've worked with had metal pins. Why couldn't they use it for this model? Update: With an extra pair of hands we were able to move the stray toothpick and finally complete the model. It…

Looks good but doesn't work

I had fun building it and it looks great on the shelf, but I couldn't get it to work with the "Roller Pendulum" installed. Without a role, it ticks normally, but very quickly. Regardless of increasing the tension of the rubber band, adding extra lubrication, straightening out the mechanism, and fine-tuning, he was able to make it work like a 20-minute timer with a reel. put it in the instructions. "Will you hear a nice sound"?! Haha, was that supposed to be a joke in the product description? As

Not reliable as a watch, but good as a model.

The design is a bit complicated, but not too complicated if you take your time. Parts can be difficult to separate and reassemble with the toothpicks provided. This prompted me to break the piece and order a replacement for the cost of shipping. Using a fishing line for a rolling pendulum is finicky at best. The biggest problem is the trigger mechanism. Waxed gears press on 2 waxed toothpicks as these are unlikely to reliably prevent the gears from binding or skipping. The "alarm" mechanism was

Great way to spend a few winter evenings

UGears are great build projects. I was looking for something to build that would be more attractive and cheaper than some models like Lego; Less messy assembly than a plastic model, requires glue and paint more complex than some level 2 or 3 car model kits; with larger parts than the Metal Earth kits, but not as elaborate as the $1,000 Japanese locomotive model kits. I gave up looking for it until I came across UGears. They're low-tech (walking on a rubber band) and perhaps more appealing to…
