Works great with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, not so good with Mint.

I was given an old HP Laserjet 6P and needed to connect it to my dual boot Linux (Mint) and Windows XP computer. My computer doesn't have a parallel port, so the only option was a USB to parallel adapter. Linux Mint wouldn't recognize it easily, so I copied the Home folder, said goodbye to Mint, and installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, which it found and installed with no problem. All in all a great product.

I bought it to connect an older one.

I bought this to connect an old Zip100 drive but it didn't work. I haven't read any reviews that say it doesn't work for this product. But when I wanted to return it, it cost me over $8, resulting in a $2 refund. So I decided to keep it. I shouldn't have returned it just to get 2 back from my $10 purchase. The information on the website says it works with external drives etc. However, the packaging states that it is intended for connecting a printer. Also, it didn't work on my machine. So…

does not work for MOTU Time Piece

I bought this for my music stand. I have an old MOTU clock that uses a serial connection. I was warned that I should only buy a certain brand for it to work, but I didn't listen. MOTU does not appear on my computer and the software does not recognize the device. When I plug it into my old computer it works, so I know it's not a device. But a better brand. The only one I've read that works is the Sabrent. this one is not

Running a Parallel Printer via USB

So I have a very old and very reliable parallel printer (HP Laserjet 5P) that used to work with a print server. I had some network changes that caused me to not be able to use it anymore. I wanted to run this printer on an old iMac with Ubuntu. This machine does not have a parallel port. This simple cable did the trick. Plugged in, turned on, went to CUPS, and there is a printer. Both the Ubuntu test page and web pages printed. It seems to be well made, but I can't say anything about durability

Probably not working for parallel devices other than printer

This adapter is probably great for connecting a parallel port printer, but I tried using it to connect another device with a parallel port and it didn't work. It doesn't appear as a true parallel port (LPT) in Windows 10. In Device Manager, when plugged in, it shows up as "no printer attached" under USB controllers. So probably works for printers, but probably not for a non-printer device.

Pros
  • Package Contents: 1 pc. UGREEN USB cable for DB25 printers.
Cons
  • boring package
