Best card reader so far for my card access system

I've had problems with some card readers, this one has worked best so far. Other devices I've tested only read certain keyfobs, but credit card-style cards do. This block seems to read them all well. I will buy more of these if needed.

Pros
  • Card type: EM ID card holder (does not support HID, Indala, Cobra, APCiK, Paradox, Radio, Honeywell, etc.)
Cons
  • Doubt

Works well as a standard EM4100 reader

These are fairly standard EM4100 readers. They worked great instead of some others I use in projects. The input/output is 5V, which is not suitable for Raspberry Pi or some intolerant 3.3V microcontrollers. I just used a couple of resistors as voltage dividers. I've used 4.7K and 2.2K which have 3.4 across the 4.7K resistor but if you have 2.7K drop 3.1V which works fine too. These readers work with really cheap access systems, search for "EM4100". ". They will not work with standard 26/34-bit…

Pros
  • Built-in LED (bi-color LED)
Cons
  • Socket required

Baha hard! on accessories

Our RFID UHPPOTE system controls the gate at the entrance to our campo in Baja California. When we installed it about 2.5 years ago it only had a card reader identical to this one. Since we needed two readers, we ordered a second reader. It was a different model. This is Baja, however, and she'll be quick to review the design of anything exposed to the weather. Salty air (we're at the beach), high summer temperatures, in rare cases showers. The real killer is intense sunlight. With more than…

Pros
  • Wiegand 26/34 output for connection to controller
Cons
  • no power
