Be patient, your battery will be 100% discharged, it only takes a few days

On first install it doesn't seem to work and when you look at the device status it says the status of the solar panel is not connected. But be patient, it took 2 days of sunlight to charge it to 100% since it was at 40% when installed. I've kept it between 90% and 100% since then...love it!

Great alternative power source but the app says "Solar Battery Status: Not Connected "

Bought not to take out the battery just to charge the device. I would give it an overall rating of 5 if the app could actually show that it's connected to solar power. While it does its job of charging the battery when it's light outside, the app still doesn't recognize it as a solar power source and still shows "Solar Battery Status: Not Connected".

Nice little solar panel

The 90 degree mini USB connector and flat cable fit well allowing me to install the cable and easily attach the Ring Doorbell to the bracket. The panel charges the ring whenever direct or close sunlight hits the panel. I installed the panel for a few weeks over the summer and the doorbell charge level has remained stable. With all solar panels, you should plan on regularly cleaning the panels so they can collect light efficiently.

I love solar power!: Solar & Wind Power

I was hesitant about connecting the Ring 2020 directly to the mains or using solar power. In my case, my doorbell only had 61% battery life when I first connected it to the solar panel. It took some time to fully charge. At first I was worried I thought it wouldn't work but now I'm glad I tried it. Now I can set the ring to monitor constantly without draining the battery. Short cord, better for direct sunlight. UPDATE

Laid out in the sun for 2 days in a row and charged my device by 5%. Where I intend to install it, it will receive a maximum of 5 hours of direct sunlight. That would be nice, but the cable is too short for me to put it where it needs to be exposed the most. It's now mid-July, in winter it would be practically useless. Just not strong enough. Make cables AT LEAST 25 feet. I'm adding an update to my review as I noticed about a week into the return process that my doorbell battery level had…
