I also recommend masking off any damaged areas on the screen to avoid cutting yourself. Make sure your Mac's glass isn't cracked before trying this or you're in for a long metal check. My daughters looked like a shooting star, but I decided to give it a try anyway. 4 hours later with tiny pieces of broken glass all over the table I made it. Bought to replace a cracked external screen (not a true LCD). Installation was very easy. Removing the old screen can be tedious and you may need to take your time depending on how badly your screen is damaged. I would recommend using a blow dryer on the edges to loosen the glue and I would NOT use a heat gun. You risk damaging the LCD.
