It will suck the Refuge dry if cranked to maximum instantly, bearing in mind that if your overflow isn't pulling the water out fast enough to compensate, you'll be sucking your chamber dry. You should run the pump low (% depending on the overflow) and increase the speed when your overflow picks up the drainage rate (speed depends on the overflow), eventually you will find an equilibrium. The plastic case is quite fragile, one broke, I had to order a second one. It's quite difficult to connect NPT fittings to the inlet and outlet, but it works. Please note that the size of the output connector differs from the input: 1" and 1 1/4". I had particular problems with the outlet seal, this was due to the NPT threads not seating snugly against the outlet threads. However, with enough tape I was able to get a decent seal. Avoid this pump at all costs! It looks the same as the Jebao DC pumps and I think it's even made in the same factory (I put it next to the Jebao and it looks identical) except for one key difference. Great pump I don't know how to set up a return pump in a saltwater aquarium without a controller. This little beauty does her job! how loud it is I can hear it working and at about 6 feet it registers about 36dB so it's totally negligible. My return line (PVC) is only half an inch long, the smallest point on the return pipe is 5/8, just heat some 1/2 ID vinyl tubing, put it on the tip and clamp, it worked!
