Works well in various terrain conditions

I live in the suburbs and do a lot of cross country walking, but I need to connect to sidewalks and roadways. I bought them so I can keep going on the trail despite quite a bit of snow. I've used them twice but on different terrain. I can say they have good grip on soft snow, well packed snow and slush. The deepest areas I've used them on are about 4 inches and they work really well. I had a few small slips over muddier stuff, but stopped after a few inches and didn't fall. I also had to crossโ€ฆ

It looks good, but there was a mini accident during the walk!

These micro spikes seem like a good and sturdy item (loved the little storage bag) but one of the chains broke in the middle of a hike. This was the first major link holding the chain in place. At first I didn't think it mattered much - I still hold on to all the other chains and continued the hike. Then, in a completely unpredictable situation, the broken larger limb caught on another microspike on my left leg (into an S-Link) and I just lost my balance. Almost fell, but sticks for extraโ€ฆ

Pros
  • The Heavy Duty Crampons are best in class, with a durable outsole featuring heat-treated stainless steel lugs that dig into the slipperiest ice and snow.
Cons
  • boring packaging

Not suitable for hiking on steep slopes or mountain slopes.

I bought them for winter hunting Keliks in the steep, rocky, ice and snow covered mountains of Idaho. When I first put them on and headed up the hill, I could tell the metal teeth really bit into it and gave me great traction. Then I started dodging like all serious cupcake hunters do, and that's where the problems started. I soon realized that the sock had slipped off my toe as I walked down the mountain. After two stops and re-leveling, I hit a flat mountain with about 4 inches of very wetโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Improved balance - 18 lugs per foot, 12 lugs on the forefoot and 6 lugs on the heel. Each wide 3-stud heel plate is designed for dependable traction on the descent, and each stud is 1/2" long. The spikes are heat treated stainless steel for superior strength and corrosion resistance.
