These seem to be the most common needles in the world, but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm new to bookbinding. I was expecting something more like a leather goods needle or a larger head for bookbinding thread, but maybe the bookbinding thread isn't as thick as I thought (you can see I'm total chichaco in that - see Robert Service for definitions). Why didn't I read the negative reviews first? I now have the rather expensive University Products bookbinding needles - a set of 5 with eyelets that are too small for my thread making them useless for my bookbinding needs. They definitely won't have any waxed threads or twines that I've ever seen. You can have a thin silk thread but I don't use it. I create brochure inserts for my magazine. The body of the needle is thick (heavy duty) and durable, and the length of the needles is as advertised.
