It Really Works!: Laptop Accessories

Specifications: 2018 13" MacBook Pro, macOS 10.14.x Mojave, Dual Display (HDMI and HDMI-to-DVI). -Star rating, but after the incredible hassle I've had to find a dock that works with all my hardware I'm beginning to think it's rare, that said I've previously spent about $100 on a Thunderbolt 3 dock hoping to that it will be able to daisy chain other devices and power my computer from two external displays. No problem. I finally decided to try a cheaper USB 3 dock and damn it works! A few things

Network adapter issues, USB ports do not support USB flash drive

I can only use external monitors and speakers. That's all. Nothing else works for it. The Ethernet port, while technically fine, stops working for about a minute every few seconds. Are you trying to stream music or videos? No, it stops every 30 seconds. And it's the same ethernet cable and router that I used with my old tower with no problems. I had to completely disable the dock's ethernet port and only use the laptop's WiFi. USB 3.0 ports only work with a mouse and keyboard. Plug in the USB…

Oh what a difference! Late 2012 Mac Mini

Mojave 10.14.3 on Mac Mini - 3 large monitors now work without issue with the latest driver downloaded from the DisplayLink website. I used a small StarTech splitter, but one of the monitors had to use scaled settings (smaller than its full width), regularly had this fuzz on startup, I couldn't see proper contrast, and the 2 monitors on the splitter kept flickering and would often not boot. when the computer wakes up. I updated my DisplayLink driver but these issues kept occurring, sometimes…

Not working as advertised

I received my superduper Dell laptop with 2 new 24 inch displays. I ordered a VT4000 docking station to drive displays and have more USB 3.x ports! Ordered 3 DisplayPort cables (I always order a spare cable). I opened the box and saw the installation disk😞; Do newer (thin) laptops have CD drives? I connect the laptop, monitors and docking station and the laptop works fine, the monitors are on but nothing happens from the laptop to the monitors. The instructions did not include a URL for the…

Better and cheaper than Targus DOCK160USZ

This is my second experience with a docking station. My standards are not particularly high. I have a 4K laptop and two old 1280x1024 monitors to give me some workspace. I have all ports 3.1, normal speed (5Gb) and USB-A and USB-C. I don't play games or do anything demanding - just lots of office work with lots of windows open. My first attempt (not the docking station I'm reviewing here): Targus DOCK160USZ, which I bought from a big real competitor for a bit more than I would pay for Revain…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
