Nice pictures but heavy

The image quality of this lens is amazing. The colors are deep and vibrant. The processing quality is excellent. The 110mm range is a very useful length. Macro photography with this lens will require a tripod or some type of mount if shooting handheld as there is no image stabilization. My Sony 7rIII has in-body stabilization, but it's not good enough for such a heavy lens.

Amazing Lens: Camera Lenses

This is by far the best macro lens I have ever used. It beats the Tamron, Canon, and Zeiss offerings that I've used for years. Sharpness, contrast and brightness. There is zero distortion. The build quality is second to none and the focus ring is buttery smooth. Manual focusing can take practice if you're not used to it, so be patient. It's also a great portrait lens, but the bokeh might not be the best. Enjoy

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Available in White Only

Superb macro lens, a work of art

This is an amazing macro lens, even at 1:1 wide aperture with no visible HA. The VERY long focus throw makes manual focusing at close range easier, including focus alignment with the focus ring. The same long throw doesn't make it very suitable for non-macro use; There are many good autofocus lenses in this range. But for Macro, he's astute and complex as a tank. By the way, don't buy it expecting it to be light - it's heavy. But the performance is amazing.

artwork best in Lenses

Voigtländer lenses have always interested me. I don't have and don't need a telephoto and/or macro lens as most of my photos are either UWA/WA landscape or 35mm/50mm for city walks. I was just looking at Sony's 85mm and 90mm macro lenses to expand my focal range and came across the CV 110mm/f2.5 and fell in love instantly. However, as a beginner hobbyist, manual focus is a bit intimidating. After thinking about this lens every day for almost two weeks, I finally gave in to temptation and bought

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Long wait

For me the most important aspect of any lens is its optical performance and up to F4.0 this lens falls a bit short of my expectations. Field curvature is noticeable at F2.5 even at infinity (which means either the center or the corners of the image can be in critical focus, but not both at the same time). Color fringes aren't too bad either, but they are quite noticeable in many common shooting conditions. That's easily corrected in post-processing, of course, but that's unacceptable for a lens

Pros
  • Trial for a year
Cons
  • Poorly adjusted
