I have several different humidifiers. We live in a very dry area and need extra moisture. I have evaporative humidifiers and ultrasonic humidifiers. High tech and low budget. came like new but the cord was tangled. The included (new) filter/wick pad was paper and didn't soak up even a third of the way and also started to darken after two days. Not emptying the tank/reservoir even though the humidity in the house was below 40% at all times. Conclusion: Previous reviews mentioned changing the filter a while ago, so the new improved and more profitable version could be the culprit. When I first received the device I noticed that the edges of both filters were covered with hot glue (see photo). After six months of successful operation, the fan motor suddenly turns off after about 30 seconds of operation. I loved the machine until this happened. But it's quite expensive for only six months of usage. Update: After a few days I decided to remove the engine compartment and dry the residual moisture with a hair dryer. We have been using it for many years. Now we have 4 of them (2 old, 2 new). Something has changed because the new models don't properly moisturize. This is the best humidifier I've ever owned (and I've had several). First, it is an evaporation method that is much better than ultrasonic. Because it's not ultrasonic, there's no risk of inhaling airborne minerals, and no white dust builds up on all your stuff.
