Grandchildren loved these boots, I ordered two different colors. They buckled them on and said they were comfortable. The best thing for them is that the sole of the shoe you open has a small ice pick (cleat) built into it. When walking on icy sidewalks or on an icy hill, the spikes provide traction. Easy to open, easy to close. 6 stars!

I bought these boots based on the positive reviews. If others have mentioned the quality of these shoes, there is a reason for that. The quality is amazing! I love her! You don't have to tie them. It uses velcro to keep it closed and the velcro is strong. You can't go wrong with these winter boots. I could easily see how the metal clip on the bottom (which you have to flip over for it to work) helps prevent slipping on ice.
