Pros below: Small, handy and nimble. I got up and decided. Everything is good with him. Works so far, no errors. We continue to observe. With its cons: For some reason, after connecting, another disk appeared in the system, which I can’t remove in any way. Wrote in support. Waiting for an answer.

I didn't expect the quality to be so high.

Some pros: Design, small, light, high-quality, nothing crunches, neat, instantly connects and works Its cons: The proprietary program did not start, issued a bug report and did nothing more sensible, as it did not rearrange and overload .

WD MyPassport (2019 release) FTW!

Somehow I had bad luck with that, but this drive is pure gold. I originally bought a 1TB WD (previous model) and the write speed on my 2018 MacBook Pro was so slow I sent it back. I decided to upgrade to this newer 4TB version and the first version I got wasn't reformatted. Swapped it for the same one and it works great. Fast, quiet, and works seamlessly on both my Mac and my wife's PC. Stop wasting time with Seagate (having had 2 crap in the last 10 years I will never use this brand again) and

Where are the rubber feet?

This test is not about drive performance; I have purchased several WD MyPassport drives in the past and have been happy with them. What I don't like about this latest version of MyPassport are two things: (1) the plastic used is very slippery, and (2) unlike all previous versions of MyPassport, this one doesn't have rubber feet to hold it on a table or shelf . It looks like they designed it specifically to slip and fall. Great if you plan to use it as an air hockey puck; terrible design for an…

Rejected same day: External hard drives

Arrived in unopened/undamaged packaging with no cosmetic damage. The drive came preformatted as NTFS and had MAC and WINDOWS installers. I ran the included installer and then the WD Full Diagnostics before booting the drive. The drive stopped working after less than 10 hours of backup and is no longer mounted (or unmounted) on any of my systems (WIN7, WIN10, MACOS). The WD software cannot "repair" or mount the drive, which means I can no longer use it. And now it's making that annoying clicking

Poor Mac OSX support

As for the device, it's pretty slick, light and fast, but only after you set it up to work with your operating system. It comes pre-formatted in Fat32 for Windows. If you want it to work with OSX, you'll need to install the WD Disc utility, either from their website or from the disc itself. The WD Disc utility was the only way to reformat the drive to HTFS, after that the Mac was able to OSX -Disk Utility reformat and encrypt it. The experience was far from smooth as WD Disk Utility kept…

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

The added expense of going from 4TB to 5TB is outrageous. Hard drives are too slow and outdated to cost that much. For some reason this model doesn't have non-slip feet and the cheap plastic surface is extra shiny/slippery. This allows it to slide like a hockey puck on almost any flat, hard surface. I have three previous My Passport models and they all have non-slip feet. This is truly an incredible design oversight on the part of WD. The included software is complete rubbish: the LED on/off…

Good performance, smaller body size.

I intend to use it as a backup drive. Physically, it's a bit smaller than the old USB sticks I got from WD. I tested it by plugging it into a USB 3 hub connected to a relatively new desktop computer and running a test program on it. Here's what I got when I ran it: Sequential Read (Q=32, T=1): 130.506 MB/s Sequential Write (Q=32, T=1): 124.038 MB/s Random Read, 4 KB (Q = 8 , T= 8) : 0.605 MB/s [147.7 IOPS] 4 KB random write (Q= 8, T= 8) : 9.243 MB/s [2256.6 IOPS] 4 KB random read (Q= 32 , T= 1)
