Crap --- Didn't work.

I spent over $21 on this product with great anticipation, but I made it. There was an error. That does not work. I soaked the rusty air conditioning register overnight hoping the product would work as advertised, but to my dismay it didn't! It is better to use citric acid and water.

  • Confident

WD40, great brand but not a great product.

I have many WD 40 products and have always loved this brand, but this product just didn't work that well. There was only superficial rust, no pitting or really heavy rusting. Let it soak for 4 hours, nothing really, another 4 hours, slight improvement, 12 hours, no further improvement, 16 hours, nothing better, and finally 24 hours and it didn't even remove all of the surface rust. I love WD40 products but not this one.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • No performance

Really works, rust runs off

I like it very much. I hate cleaning but was willing to do it. So I was happy when I put my old rusty tools in the bin with this product. Leave to soak overnight. The next morning I take my tool out of the liquid and the rust literally rolls off. The packaging doesn't say it's disposable so I was able to put more items in the liquid bucket. These items came out clean so I said I would use them a third and fourth time. Cleaned rusty items just needed soaking a little longer. Good way to get more

Special tool WD-40 removes rust, but it takes a little patience

Put the tool in a small mason's neck and poured WD-40 special tool on the neck. I let it soak for 2.5 days and when I came back to check it out I noticed what a great job this product was doing with the tool. If you notice in my picture the tool is only halfway into the jar with a small neck. The bottom of the instrument was spotlessly clean, but the metal handles were still rusty. The WD-40 Specialty Cleaner worked incredibly well and I would recommend it to anyone with rusty tools.

Pros
  • A lot of positive emotions
Cons
  • A little torn

That worked great for me.

I bought it some time ago then I got distracted by other projects. I recently cleaned out the shed and found a misplaced 6" adjustable socket wrench that was rusty and Wiss metal shears. The key was coated but the scissors were not. I dunked them together for about 36 hours and pulled them out today. I didn't expect much. I was surprised when I opened the jar and saw that there was no smell. I was a bit skeptical about the possible outcome. I was wrong, the tools washed perfectly. Although the…

Absolutely normal. Weak odor but slow.

Pretty good. Little smell and a bit slow but does a pretty good job. The rusty object must be degreased and rinsed well. I used compressed air before and after degreasing to remove any loose or soft material. It is a slow acting chemical process. Slightly rusted parts and tools were left to soak overnight. I shook the ointment several times. Heavier rust lasted at least 24 hours, some stayed in the tub for several days. The solution turns black when exhausted and I have never poured it back…

Easily removes rust with a light wipe

Love this product. I actually used it on a drill press rebuild project and used it to remove rust from some fasteners. I've also used it to remove rust from other full size parts for other projects. You just put it in a bowl the size of your part and then put in just enough to cover the entire part and then dip your part in the liquid and let it sit for a set amount of time. After removing the rust, I recommend either lubricating the parts you just removed the rust from or polishing them to…

Works well with older and better rust removers

I decided to try WD-40 rust remover on some of my grandfather's very old tools that I recently 'rediscovered' after having owned them for over 60 years. I selected a few I wouldn't soak in WD-40 RRS (low resolution image left) to compare the results to the pieces I soaked overnight (image right). Initially all the tools were very rusty but not pitted or stained. I was very pleased with the soaked things. After some work with scotch brite sponges they looked better than I had hoped. And the…

Hard fight against rust face to face and winner.

I rebuild tools and use different methods and materials to remove or remove rust - I recently had a head to head comparison between a 1 gallon WD rust remover and its competitor Evaporust, also a gallon jug, performed. I used the same pots (3 sizes, 6 total), selected parts and tools with different amounts of rust, and selected the same amount of each type for each cleaner. The WD isn't worth the extra $5 in my opinion as the Evaporust was faster, more efficient and obviously more fuel…
