I must have got cheap defective hardware. No, it's a cheap iron.

I must have a broken iron. I have over 40 years of electronics repair experience and this is the most frustrating soldering iron I can imagine. On the second use the tip broke off and the whole soldering iron literally fell apart. This is a $9.99 disposable iron priced at $46. This iron is of such cheap quality that I question the "Verified Purchase" reviews.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Legacy Model

Smart for soldering small electronics

If you need a low temperature soldering iron to repair chips or electronics that can be destroyed at high temperatures, this soldering iron might be for you. 12 watt tiny tip. Can do seam soldering with a Weller iron (good brand). I use it for those thin wires in the electronics to protect the LEDs from excessive heat. I really like this product. Buy it before they add tax. With free shipping, it outperforms local stores because it doesn't require gas for your vehicle. If I needed two I would…

Ideal for soldering small wires or PCB components.

I love that I can change the motor on my quadcopter without melting the whole board. It seems to be taking a while for the solder to melt while trying to hold the tiny wires in place, or maybe I need more experience with this. So far this has worked fine for me. Perhaps a 20 watt or 25 watt would be just as useful and wouldn't take as long to get the solder to the right temperature. I like the thin tip that keeps heat right where it's needed. I can try a higher wattage soldering iron but I'm…

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
