It works, but it's not great.

I would recommend a simpler tool or better scriber. Vernier scales are wrong and practically useless. The scale measures up to ten inches, but only 8 can be used. You need to mark with a pen or pencil, so marking errors still need to be accounted for. Wen has a manual on how to use this device, but it's immediately obvious that the increments are wrong and they don't really instruct how to use it. So if you don't know what to look for, it's easy to miss.

Pros
  • Allows manual measurement with caliper accuracy
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

A very well made instrument.

This is a very good instrument. It stays nice and square. The main scale is accurate in both metric and SAE. The metric vernier scale is very accurate and easy to read. The SAE vernier scale is much more difficult to read. Several times two lines don't match and you try to count in your head. But even that is completely sufficient for woodworking. It feels good in the hand and, in my opinion, is quicker to set up than a combination square. The large locking handle is very comfortable to useโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Includes both metric (0.05mm) and imperial (0.002 inch) vernier scales
Cons
  • old

Fractional inch scale toggles between two different measurements

Vernier scale reads 0.002" but main scale is reset to 1/16". So you have to take your main reading at 1/16 of an inch and then somehow convert the vernier scale to fractions, even if it's marked with a weird decimal hybrid. Everything is very confusing and almost useless. The metric side is fine, so if you need accurate measurements you can use that. But there are better and cheaper rulers for metric vernier offset marking. Most fractional inch vernier scales have a major scale of 1/16, 1/32 or
