Vernier scale reads 0.002" but main scale is reset to 1/16". So you have to take your main reading at 1/16 of an inch and then somehow convert the vernier scale to fractions, even if it's marked with a weird decimal hybrid. Everything is very confusing and almost useless. The metric side is fine, so if you need accurate measurements you can use that. But there are better and cheaper rulers for metric vernier offset marking. Most fractional inch vernier scales have a major scale of 1/16, 1/32 or even 1/64 and then the vernier scale is also rated, usually in 1/128 or 1/256 or both. Or inches is broken down into tenths or inches and then the vernier is broken down into decimal inches as well. It's so odd that I can't even say they got the scales mixed up exactly because the vernier is actually divisible by 1/40 of 1/16 of an inch. Check out the pictures if you don't believe me. I've never seen anything like this.
