Big shade = softer light

I use this shade with a Linco Flora 6-light fluorescent fitting (also available from Revain). It also works very well with stroboscopic lighting. I chose the Wescott brand for the umbrella because it is reliable quality. However, I did not go for the Wescott Spider lamp holder because the price is exorbitant, ten times the price of the Linco Flora (see my Flora review here on Revain). I recommend this umbrella for studio and outdoor use as the main light. . The large diameter of 60 inches…

Great umbrellas for the price

For the price I'm not sure you could get any better. This is exactly what I needed. I have two to use for large groups at weddings etc. I used to carry softboxes, but since the umbrellas are foldable, they are much easier to transport. They easily fit into my photogenic light. I haven't tried them with my flashes, but I'm sure they will work with these umbrella adapters as well. The only thing is because they are so big you definitely don't want to use them outside on a windy day. I'm not sure…

Good for the price but worse

Westcott makes some great modifiers but this 'convertible' umbrella didn't live up to its name. First, it's not much larger than my 43-inch Promaster convertible umbrella. The inner black leather has no reflective material which in itself causes the umbrella to absorb around 1-1.5 stops of light when used in a reflective configuration. Overall, my Promaster performs much better in both reflectivity and shooting. The Westcott screen's white "satin" finish is one of the least translucent screens…

Excellent, especially for the price.

I bought this to replace another damaged block and was surprised to see more plastic in the construction than I'm used to. At first I thought it was bad, but it turns out that the plastic is quite forgiving in many situations where the metal has buckled in other umbrellas I've used, sometimes to the point where I couldn't fix it anymore. I use an umbrella as a hatch, and it's quite adequate for that purpose. The reflective surface on the inside reflects a lot of the light, which I would like to

Big and versatile in umbrellas

A well designed light shaper at a reasonable price. The ability to use it in both rebound and pierce configurations makes it very versatile. I'm a little apprehensive about taking it outside for fear of high winds, but you'll be fine as long as you use sandbags on your light stand. Build quality is pretty good and should stand up to reasonable use. The quality of the light produced by this umbrella is soft given its size and looks quite nice. With full diffusion in reflection mode, the light is

Very poor quality - umbrellas

I am disappointed with this umbrella. I expected much better quality from a Wescott product. I have had this umbrella for less than 4 months and have used it almost exclusively for every session since purchase. It delivers good quality light when shooting, but last week all but the two back supports attached to the center column broke completely, rendering the umbrella completely unusable. This is with normal use, an average of 3 sessions per week, without any external circumstances. I've had…

Great in every way except he's not 60 inches tall.

. The struts holding it open are strong, the main stem is strong yet light. The opening mechanism is quick and easy to use. It comes with a clear plastic case to keep it clean and easy to move around. It's not 60 inches. It's only about 51 inches wide from tip to tip when open. You could only call it 60" by measuring the poles with the umbrella closed. In this state, they are 30" long. Of course, we all know that the poles flex into an umbrella shape when open, so the 30" Open inch posts to an…
