Cool but value for money

Western Digital's 40GB 7200rpm hard drive is designed for advanced desktop PCs, making it ideal storage for Internet downloads, music, videos and other large files. The high-performance drive offers Ultra ATA/100 and Ultra ATA/66 interfaces, fast seek times and transfer rates of up to 100 MB/s. The drive includes Data Lifeguard, an exclusive combination of Western Digital hardware features and software utilities that protect your data and software and simplify your drive installationโ€ฆ

Never buy this (expletive) hard drive.

This piece (phrase) ruined the movie my friends and I were making. This (expletive) part of the (expletive) erased a total of over 1,000 hours of work that we put into this fun 45 minute film we called My Pirate. We were literally five minutes from finishing rendering and seeing the whole movie for the first time when this mother (expletive) piece (expletive) (expletive) (expletive) broke, leaving us with nothing but the memories we had. Luckily we still have raw material and plan to make a 2.0

Great hard drive at a good price

Western Digital's 7200 RPM hard drive is fast but sometimes so weak I'm not sure it even works. older model. But with the help of Western Digitals I was able to download a new BIOS and flash the old one to make it understand the Ultra ATA/100 and Ultra ATA/66 interfaces. I think this is a very good buy from a good company.

So far there are no problems. Good for data storage

I have 4 operating systems on this hard drive. I had no problems with Win98/2k/xp, Red Hat Linux. It should be noted that the version I needed required a firmware update to work properly with Linux, which you can download from Western Digital's website. For those involved in mirroring and uninstalling software. I can verify if it works on windows 2k and xp.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine

hmmm Data storage electronics

This is a BIG hard drive in itself, but the price is really... . I could have bought a 100GB hard drive for less but amazon.com always gave me a bundle so I bought it here. It's quiet, and it doesn't matter, now my computer boots almost three times faster. And the size is nice and comfortable. Should last about 6 years if you don't try to save space if you do a good job. For a long time. 7200 rpm makes it BEAUTIFUL! The biggest downside, however, was the installation. Connecting was easy. This is the best model, this is Caviar

Western Digital (WD) drives have never let me down. Of course it all depends on the usage and the environment you install this media in and some prefer Maxtor or Seagate. In the world of EIDE drives, my choice is WD. It's incredibly quiet, very fast (especially when you plug it into an ATA/100 card in a PCI slot - damn it!) and lets you add storage on the fly. I used this particular drive to turn an old Pentium I machine into a neat little file server on my home LAN. With a 100MB PCI NIC, itโ€ฆ
