looks very nice: lights close to the ceiling

Looks good and I like the plastic inserts instead of the broken glass. This creates a beautiful shine, just like frosted glass. The benefit for me was that you simply unscrew the large nut on the bottom to open the bracket and change the bulb. My old one had 2 impossible screws that had to be removed from the top of the ceiling.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Good choice for lighting and ceiling fans

Finally replaced our 30+ year old polished brass fixture on the porch ceiling near the front door. Looks nice. Hubby says it was easy to install. Because our siding has a curved edge, the base of the bracket will not rest against the ceiling, so we expect bugs to appear inside on a regular basis, and you must be careful not to over-tighten the center post. The tip is too tight or you may break the glass. Overall very happy with this purchase.

A bit buggy, but can be darkened.

I bought this lamp because of the design. Other reviews indicated that this prevented bugs from occurring. When I opened the box. Unfortunately for me. The caulk just doesn't adhere well to the porch ceiling. It's been a few months and my light is full of bugs. I believe it might need a little redesign to be completely clean. Or maybe a newer porch. I also bought this lamp because you can dim it. It actually works pretty well. So not five. But definitely better than other things I've seen…

Must be installed in the electrical box on the ceiling/ceiling.

Appears to be of good quality. At the bottom, where the cap screws onto the nipple, there is a small area for insects to enter. I didn't have access to an electrical box that would probably allow me to snuggle up to the ceiling. Instead, I drilled holes in my new Hardie soffit near where the wires exited and secured with snap bolts. Because of this, there is a gap of about 1/4 inch between the ceiling and the fixture. I don't know how to set it to be on the same level.

One of two lights does not work.

This light has good style and is perfect as a ceiling light on my porch. Unfortunately, after building and installing several times, I can't get any of the lights to work. I've given up trying to make it work. It's cold outside and I'm too old to constantly climb the stairs to fix them. It has something to do with how the bulb screws into the socket and doesn't make a proper connection. I'll ask an electrician to try it when the weather gets better. It's a really nice light, and even when a…

Good quality good price

After reading some of the other reviews on this unit I was ready to be a bit disappointed when it arrived. It's not like this. This is a well made product and represents good value. It was typical outdoor lighting. Some reviewers have concluded that the base is "weak," and to some extent this is true. Its slight flexibility should allow slight changes in the surface of the blanket. If your surface is nice and flat, flexibility isn't an issue. One odd note: I purchased this product through…

Nice looking light.

Replaced an old plastic patio light with this one. This is a good looking flashlight and appears to be well built. The only minor complaint I have is that there is a large gap between the glass and the center support bar. It's not very visible from below, but bugs can easily get inside. I installed a tighter washer over the glass to keep the bugs from getting through. Some reviews complained about the installation, but it's no different than any other flush mount I've installed. Yes, the…

I received a different product? run, don't walk

Not sure about all the "easy to install" reviews. In the last few months we have replaced a dozen different lighting fixtures. This one was MUCH worse for the setup.1. The instructions were useless. Roll it into a ball and throw it in the fireplace as soon as you open the package.2. The two screws holding the canopy to the junction box are almost impossible to fit through the holes. (At least that's what I've seen in some other reviews.) 3. The screws need to be "preset" to the correct height…

Difficult to install

I replaced 4 ceiling fans, 5 different lights and yet the most difficult part was the installation. Acorn nuts are a terrible fit unless the mounting bolts are the correct height. Luckily we had screw nuts, not acorn nuts, which are completely pointless. You can't see union nuts, so they don't have to look "pretty". Hex nuts are MUCH easier to install, but there were still problems getting the mounting screws perfect so they were flush. just to make sure it's never quite flush. I ended up…
