You can't hold this bowl while eating; it transfers heat to the outside of the bowl too easily and there are no handles. I have ramen bowls but this works really well for soups and warm cereals. Not sure why the lid fits so loosely, maybe it's a way to have it vented in the microwave without special venting. I have a tight fitting cut that sometimes comes loose at the top when the contents suddenly boil. There is enough clearance that even if he jumped he would still land correctly and close the hole.
