A quality set is worth the investment.

Use of good quality. The carbide cutter is holding up well after a few uses and seems to be able to handle a decent depth of cut. The fit between the insert and the neckline is very tight. I bought this and the HF version and quickly sent the other back as it came with an HSS bit instead of a carbide bit. I wish it came in a stronger pouch as I already tore mine.

But works fine. in Power & Hand Tools

Works well but deducted 2 stars because the pressure on the small o-ring socket is too much. Too tight that you can't put your fingers on or off - you have to tap with a plastic/rubber mallet and to remove it you have to wrap several turns of electrical tape and use pliers. If you damage the socket with the teeth of the pliers, accuracy will be affected. It shouldn't be that crowded.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!

Use it wisely! Best in Power & Hand Tools

I've read reviews of other bit sets and found that many were disappointed when the bit broke. I believe most users have cut too deep or too fast or both. This bit, like any other 1/8" bit, is not designed for deep plunge cuts for structural (Dutch) inserts. As thin as the insert. The insert is usually a very thin veneer, perhaps only a few millimeters. For that, this kit works flawlessly. Whiteside kits are well designed and very well made. It's American quality and it speaks for itself.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Whiteside Inlay Kit - Tops

There's a reason I only buy Whiteside bits (mostly) from Revain, they just work and the price is right. I make jewelry boxes and encrust objects (mostly agate stones) into the lids or fronts depending on the design. I used to do it by hand, but the many small curves became impossible to cut cleanly. Eventually I broke down and went electric and with the Whiteside Inlay Kit my inserts look like they are part of a tree. I recently broke a 1/16" straight drill the first time I used it and thoughtโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak

This set inspired me to buy more Whiteside products.

I am very pleased with the quality, fit and finish of the parts in this set. I've used it several times with both store bought and homemade templates. The inserts fit together perfectly with minimal preparation and no gaps between the insert and the workpiece. This was my first experience with a Whiteside product ----- in fact I had never heard of the company prior to this purchase. The photo shows a teapot stand and a stand with a chrysanthemum inlay for a Chinese tea room. I made my ownโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • old
