Quick Release Antenna Support for ICOM 705 ICOM IC-705 by WINDCAMP Review

IMO is a great addition to the 705. Eliminates the constant replacement of a connector on the main frame which extends the life of that connector (IMO). Nothing more to say. Would buy again. Understand it works fine with the Peovi pen I ordered.

Works well overall and helps keep the radio at a comfortable angle. The thumbscrew could be better with a rubber grommet or o-ring to increase the gripping ability that holds the radio more tightly. If it was half the price I would happily give 5 stars.

The components are well made but the end result is a very unstable radio when touching the screen and adjusting the controls. The included thumbscrew does not hold the bracket in a stable position, causing the radio to wobble and change angle. Support from only one side also leads to an unstable situation.

I regretted buying this item as soon as I hooked it up to my radio. No matter how hard I tightened the thumbscrew, the bracket still moved and didn't hold the radio in the desired tilted position. Using this mount makes plugging or unplugging microphone jacks very difficult. Also, I couldn't find a way to install the mic cable strain relief bracket, which is usually held in place by a ground screw replaced with a thumbscrew. This is a very good idea if you want to use the IC-705 with a mobile antenna in the VFH/UHF band. However, as others have pointed out, it suffers from two disadvantages. First, the thumbscrew that attaches the frame to the radio cannot be tightened enough with bare hands to prevent movement. There are three ways to solve this problem.
