Very good transformer

We use them outdoors for mounting on towers with large Yagi antennas. They work very well. Good signal transmission and very low losses. They seem well constructed and haven't let us down yet. In some cases they are at 60-120 feet in the air. The accident costs us quite a bit as a climber comes and replaces the transformer (hundreds of dollars). So far no failures!

All weather, excellent quality for the price

This is my second Vinegard transformer. The first lasted a little under 4 years under the scorching South Texas sun. Always maintained a very strong signal. Only replaced it due to stresses caused by the weight of 40ft of coax hanging from it. This error does not occur with a current transformer. Winegard makes quality products. With their products, you can always count on maximum signal strength.

Ideal for converting flat cable to coax for an outdoor antenna

An outdoor antenna that is over 40 years old needs rewiring. There was a flat cable and wanted to convert to coax. This worked great allowing this to be done at the antenna connection point. It was a quality antenna when new and still works. After the conversion, I now get over-the-air stations I didn't know about. It's time to cut the cord. If you have an on-air antenna, even analog, it can be converted to coaxial.

Good replacement for an old cracked balun

My old rooftop antenna had a bad balun. I think it's just the sun exposure over the years - the plastic got brittle and cracked, and then the rain came. This replacement worked great. I didn't use it for too long because I also found that my old antenna just didn't work so I replaced it with one with built in baluns (DB8e). I will definitely use it because it's a quality device and I'm sure I'll need it for another project in the future.

Coax cable connector to antenna

Bought a pair of these. One for me, the second to help a neighbor. Using his OTA antenna, he received weak signal notifications on some channels. I checked the cable at the antenna and saw that the sun had eroded the connector's plastic and weatherproof snap-on cover and allowed water to seep into the connection. Replaced his old jack with Winegard and he again had a good signal on all his channels. As with anything exposed to strong sun and weather, there's no telling how long this will last…

  • Audio and video accessories
Cons
  • Available in white only

As soon as I unpacked it, I had my doubts about the quality. The case is made entirely of plastic and weighs almost nothing. It concerned that the circuit inside had no shield. I went to install it on the antenna and while tightening the wing nuts the connector flew right off the end of the cable. None of the terminals are soldered (just crimped). For the price I expected a quality component. Shame on Winegard. Coincidentally, I was at a local large department store and spotted an RCA…

THE CONNECTORS EASILY BREAK IF…

When tightening the clamps on the antenna screw, hold the clamp with one hand to avoid excessive movement and turn the wrench /Diver with other hand. Otherwise, the terminal will follow the screw, detach from the case, and the wire may break. Yes, I broke one before. The second way to break terminals on a wire is due to the weight, stress, and/or movement of the coaxial cable. It takes very little force to break the clip. I suggest attaching the transformer to the antenna before connecting the…
