Easy to use even for beginners

It took me ten more scratches to start my first fire. Then all I needed was a scratch to start a second fire. Super easy to use.

Not For Beginners: Outdoor Recreation

This item was a present for my husband. It was a little tricky to tilt it properly and get a spark. We have a few, but not enough to light anything. This is probably the best product for true outdoor enthusiasts. We will keep trying. I really liked the design and the packaging.

Great Rod is good for outdoor recreation

They work well for ferrocerium rods. The lanyard is long enough to use the included striker. No need to sharpen your own knives or even sharpen the back of your spine. That's enough to get some really good sparks and start a fire. I teach my son how to do it and he can't do it until he is 8 years old.

Works like a camping and hiking trailer

The reviews of "works well with practice" or "not for beginners" confuse me a bit. It's not like it's a complicated machine that requires close attention to complex instructions before you can use it. It consists of two parts. and instructions can be as simple as "Rub sharp edge of firing pin against rod". lol. Well, ferrorods, of course, require some force to apply from a sufficiently sharp edge (which is present on the firing pin). Suppose someone totally unfamiliar with the concept could try
