Great awning.

I'm taking a tarp to Santa Cruz Beach, California to cover my small boat tent and create a shaded porch. Note that the edges of the tarpaulin are not very rough and you should not assume that they are perfectly straight. Holds up well in moderate winds when used and tightened in combination with sandbags.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Good but not great

Exceeded my expectations

Good balance of weight / packaging / coverage. The lines could have been done a bit better but they held up pretty well to the wind we encountered during the cable car. Maybe I'll replace the stock cords with a 550 cord before my next trip, the tarpaulin has also withstood gusty winds very well and is still alive in my backpack.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • I have no complaints about it, everything is fine

Very thin and light!

I use this as a rain cover over the main bed in my pull out camper. Now we can keep the windows open even when it rains. I used self-adhesive velcro to attach it to the inside edge of the roof over the pull out bunk with limited success. Self-adhesive Velcro does not like a waterproof coating on the fly. BUT. It worked well enough to keep us dry through 4 rainy days on a 5 day hike.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Nothing

Nice and big pretty good quality

I bought this and have left it outside in all weathers for months now. It was worth every penny! I am very happy with my purchase. Everything underneath stays dry. However, if you touch it, you will get wet. It cost money. It's starting to crack now but for the price I'm really glad it lasted so long! I would recommend this to any casual hiker/tourist.

Pros
  • Great fit for me
Cons
  • No instructions

High quality fabric, can use reinforced grommets and better ropes

The tarpaulin itself is a high quality material. eyelets; However, better reinforcement and lower quality shock cords could have been used. I will make some adjustments on the corners to better withstand the wind. I'll replace the shock cords with a Paranoid. The supplied cords mostly melted and then broke from the tension caused by the wind.

  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Good tarp if you have the extra rope skills to overcome its limitations

Sturdy construction with good stitching on all edges. The tarp is very portable and lightweight, with a reflective side that can be used as a sun visor. My lack of versatility is because there isn't a single eyelet on the long side of the tarp to attach cables or support posts. There must be at least two eyelets on the long side. There are also no instructions on how and where the supplied guidelines should be attached. The stakes are light but look like they won't be able to handle a good…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Good tarpaulin for outdoor activities

The tarpaulin itself is quite pleasant. I had it over my camp bed one weekend and over my hammock on another walk. Both times everything worked. It was big enough to fit through both of my camping shelters. Folding it across the field can be a challenge as it is such a large but overall good tarp. When I got home I folded it better and had no problem putting it back in my duffel bag. The tent poles were fine. They held up with no problems. The rope was pretty average in my opinion, but it…

Good for the sun. Not good for heavy driving rain

I first used this product over Memorial Day weekend in Southwest Virginia, kayaking solo on day one. much cooler than my normal raincoat. It was put to the test the second night in the pouring rain when a friend invited me to a group camp with people spending over $700 (haha) for a night of camping. Around 10:30pm my radar went off and we had about 20 minutes before a rough walk back to camp after 30 minutes of continuous heavy rain that started to soak through the fabric. It became extremely…
