Xantrex Free-458 2000W 12V 100A M-Sine Inverter/Charger Review

This single output inverter replaces my 14 year old dual output inverter. The new one is much more efficient without having to worry about turning off the circuit breakers. Has been working great 24/7 for a month.

My Xantrex Freedom 458 Inverter/Charger arrived on time and was undamaged. It was perfect for my 13 year old. It was an easy exchange. How nice if the manufacturer does not constantly change the design, so that a direct exchange is possible. The new inverter works great and the price was a little lower than my local RV store. I couldn't be happier!

Replaced a 2003 Freedom 20 in a 2004 Itasca Meridian RV. Easy replacement, even mounting bolts and holes match. Used cable from the old block. I had to disassemble it to release the negative cable. I had to drill out the positive and negative ends of the cable to install the new unit. I had to install it with the end of the unit's cord pointing toward the center of the RV to avoid getting new cords.

THIS IS MY SECOND XANTREX INVERTER AND AN UPGRADE FROM MY 12 YEAR OLD 1000 WATT XANTREX THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. YOU MUST UPGRADE THE BATTERY CABLES TO DOUBLE 00 SIZE FOR THIS TO WORK SAFELY IF YOU REPLACE 1000W INVERTER (NO LONGER AVAILABLE). IN ACT, FOUR NATIONAL DOLPHIN LX RV'S I HAVE HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED WITH XANTREX CONVERTERS. I CAN ATTEST THEIR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY. GOOD PRODUCT!

This was a sale item because I think it was damaged before shipping. The package was badly crumpled, one corner was crumpled. The charger/inverter had a severely bent corner, suggesting it was dropped from some height. I was concerned about internal damage as the unit weighs around 60 pounds and a fall could detach or damage it. So I returned it. Beware of cheaper items on amazon.com, they may be new but will need to be "relocated" because they are damaged.

Installed on my boat. This is normal for low power devices like lamps and TVs, but if you apply a large load, even a coffee pot, the voltage will jump from 110 to 140 and the device will burn out. Excellent replacement for the original inverter. Works as it should and shipped FAST! EDIT: Xantrex claims a 30 month warranty. I bought this inverter in May 2016. In February 2018, the inverter made a loud buzz and then a very loud pop followed by smoke. So I'm about 22 months out of my 30 month "warranty" and am calling Xantrex.
