Type of review

Even when the unit isn't charging, the big noisy fan runs at maximum speed. Waste of power (because at this stage the device only cares about the battery) and is as noisy as a small motor. I read a lot of bad reviews about Xantrex but decided to give it a try because it's so cheap. What can go wrong, right? Believe bad reviews. This is definitely the case when you get what you pay for.

Pros
  • Built-in 30A relay to automatically switch between inverter power and incoming AC power
Cons
  • For seniors

Avoid the HF 1000: Inverter

Maybe the bigger ones are better and maybe they've improved them, who knows. As inverters they are good. As chargers they are useless for any batteries I connected them to.

Pros
  • Integrated 30A relay to automatically switch between inverter power and incoming AC power
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Worst design of inverters

Even when the device is not charging, the big loud fan runs at full speed. Waste of power (because at this stage the device only cares about the battery) and is as noisy as a small motor. I read a lot of bad reviews about Xantrex but decided to give it a try because it's so cheap. What can go wrong, right? Believe bad reviews. This is definitely a case where you get what you pay for.

Pros
  • Automatic overload protection
Cons
  • Almost never

So far so good with the inverters

I installed an HF1000 on my boat over the weekend. While normally inverting and charging. The installation went very smoothly. This unit was a replacement for an old inverter/charger that had expired. This device is half the size and 1/3 lighter than the one it replaces and is still rated for 1000W of power. It powered my small microwave in inverter mode without breaking a sweat. I see all the bad reviews about bad quality and not very good customer service so I bought an extended warranty from

Pros
  • Thermal shutdown
Cons
  • No power
