I bought it not only for channel control but also for volume. However, as I discovered after purchasing it, Comcast cable boxes don't have the ability to control the volume on your TV. So it doesn't make much sense to me. It does give you invisible control over channels and other functions with the remote control, but without an invisible volume control it's just not worth my money.

I wanted to be able to use the XR11 on a PC so I hacked the cable for the XR8 to provide the required 5V from the USB port and then route the signal to the Line -In my sound card further. I then used Lirc or WinLirc to detect IR with the sound card. It works perfectly.
