Worst filter I've ever seen

I cut one apart after watching a video on U-Tube. The RUST had fallen out, the inner filter media was 1 3/4 gone and the cylinder was CARDSTOCK with a plastic coating, it was NEW! I removed one from my car, drained it after 3000 miles and cut off the top, the cardboard center which is the actual filter material failed at the bottom allowing the oil to flow through without filtering. I was shocked as I always thought Fram was the best surge protector.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • I'm worried

They are enough for 10,000 miles. Not really.

The idea that in a 21st century car we still have to change the oil every 3000 miles or 3 months is very outdated and wasteful. You don't drive a Model T. It's marked with a 10K filter and I put full synthetic oil in my engine. Oil change every 10,000 km or annually. Then the car's computer tells me to change it. Less than 3,000km. Disclaimer: If you live in Death Valley or the North Pole (a city in Alaska) or Mojave, you may have a different oil change schedule. Most of us don't live in these…

New filter to try

Checked out a new review of this filter from FRAM. I liked the performance and quality compared to the original "blue" Honda. I am trying them and for the price they are very good for me. I change every 5,000 km anyway. After doing 5k to say 7k or 10k I found my oil came out black and figured it would be 5k for me with full synthetics. I change the oil myself so it's cheap insurance. My Ridgeline has 230,000 miles and runs and tows great. Supposedly FRAM has upped the quality over the past and…

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing

Works very well as a transmission filter for my 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with 4 speed automatic transmission (4EAT). The factory filter is a special design and I would NOT recommend any other oil filter in this case. However, Fram Ultra synthetic fill flows SO GOOD (with so little flow resistance) that you can get away with it. This filter has the exact same gasket and outside diameter as the Tokyo Roki Subaru factory transformer filter, but the fram is approximately 1 inch longer. The
