The manufacturer's honing of the knives is quite appropriate; the blades are made into razors, the hair is shaved, and the newsprint is cut by weight. In my set, the polypropylene handles are dark gray, they fit my hands well, and I feel like they have a decent grip. The stand is composed of wood, varnished (or impregnated in some way), and includes rubber stops at the bottom and through holes for knives.
