Description of 🧶 Efficient Yarn Swift and Ball Winder Set for Knitting Yarn: Practical Yarn Holder

WHY CHOOSE this yarn swifter - metal parts are thicker, sturdier than green ones. Dimensions: 21" x 19" x 17". The storage case is 17.5" x 2" x 2" (prevents it damaging by delivery and keeps it clean). WHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE - can be set up either horizontally or vertically! Better shaped, much lighter than the Wood Swift. Can be kept mounted on a table easily. The table clamp or clip is 1.75" (use it on a table thinner than 1.75"/4.5cm), which holds the swift in place and spins freely as you wind skeins. The clamp doesn't love rounded edged table. It stays put fine, but not quite as strongly anchored as on an angular-edged table. Note the clamp will leave marks on a wood table. Cover with something protective. The metal construction means this knitting yarn swift folds up more compact than the wood ones. It's very light and easy to work with. The end is designed so you can put the swift at any angle you want. Once you figure out how to use the clamp it's easy to set up either horizontally or vertically. The size is easy to adjust and it runs smoothly. If you have limited table space, you can use this hanging off the table, without it getting in the way. The yarn swift tabletop is a workhorse. We have used the yarn swifts with different yarn weights from lace to Aran, and wound scads of skeins of everything from crochet cotton size 10 to a heavy worsted, and it's worked for all. It can rock a little when using the top handle, but nothing to make you discard it. You can use it to unravel sweaters from thrift shops to reuse the yarn (cashmere, wool, alpaca). We unravel the sweater directly to the swift, creating 60" hanks.

Waste of money

Sorry to write a negative review - I usually just bite the bullet and throw the product in the bin. This swift yarn is definitely a problem with finer yarns. The thread is constantly caught in the metal connectors at the points on each side. If you don't get close to the swift and keep the twine away, not only will it snag it will snap. I'm not sure why anyone thinks this is a good tool. But I can only speak from my own experience. Consider this a cautionary tale for those looking to purchase…

  • One year trial

My goodness, damn it! This thing is crucial when winding yarn!

I used to spread my knees to lay down a thread and then slowly wind it up by hand. But the yarn often got tangled and it was a tedious process. Sometimes I used the back of my chair to pause and resume the process, but the yarn still got tangled and it took forever. Then I dyed some yarn and it got a little more tangled than a fresh skein so I gave up and got this Swift. I also ordered Winder but it was delayed so I just used Swift to make the ball. I simply placed this Swift on the edge of my…

Works perfectly!

It's not the strongest it could be but for the price I wasn't expecting it. Other than that, it hasn't let me down yet and has proven strong enough for my needs. I didn't think I would use it until I had the skein I needed for twisting, but although I ran out of a skein to reuse I found it an invaluable companion to my yarn winder as it made it so much easier is fixing problems with a strand loading it onto this swift like I'm trying to wrap it in a pie. most of what I put on him at one time…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
