The store told me the compressor was shot in the 2011 avalanche. Another mechanic friend of mine told me that this was most likely the culprit. Replaced and works perfectly. The problem was that the fan would periodically kick in and eventually stop working altogether.

DO NOT BUY! The device did not turn off the fan below the medium speed. I bought it in April 2021. This is late July 2021. The middle one didn't last long. The connection melted, and when it was pulled off, the pins soldered to the circuit board inside the module came out with the connector. Buy from your local parts store for extra money.

Not sure. I bought 2, the first was unstable. I also swapped out 2 motors thinking they might be the cause. .but this week, just before the snowstorm, the fan went off completely. It is fuse operated and the switch works. Do I have to disassemble it again to check the motor? Now finally install new genuine GM Decl Remy parts, motor and resistor. I want to return my resistors and motors.

This is a remanufactured part, not original. If you're not sure what to take, take this one. If yours has never been replaced (which you know) you will need to create a simple wire mod. If it's already been replaced (and you didn't know it), it's just plug and play. There are some good videos on YouTube on how to replace this, including a mod. If you need to make a mod, do some stitching. insulation at hand.
