🐠 Xiaoyztan Aquarium Sponge Pre-Filter Review

If you have a thicker inlet pipe like the Marineland 400 cooktop filter. Clean and tight. I hope that didn't sound dirty. 🤔🤨

Excellent pre-filtration sponges. The center hole is small enough for my small Whisper intake manifold, but will also fit the much larger Top Fin intake manifold. I use 4 for pre-filters on reflux systems. I was even able to stretch the center hole to fit a 3/4 piece of PVC for a homemade filter I have. Note that they don't have a fixed end. The hole goes right through.

You keep my shrimp from being sucked into the canister filter. They provide more surface area for good bacteria to grow and act as a really good pre-filter, reducing the need for frequent cleaning of my canister filter. They're not very easy to clean, they're a sponge and will trap hard-to-remove plant parts. Not the best view for an aquascape aquarium, but the shrimp are worth it.

These pre-filters are coarser than some I've gotten before from other brands and allow for better water flow. I use them on my fancy goldfish and they basically keep plant parts out of the filter. I have two sizes of fine foam in my cooktop to clean the water. I didn't want them clogging the air intake with plants/faeces. I put a few stitches at the bottom of each one to close the end. I use them in combination with Marineland HOB filters, remove the screen and slide it over the pipe. Very easy

I will not use it anymore. I loved them because the regular sponges I use get clogged up pretty quickly and need to be rinsed out frequently. I thought it could be better. But last night I noticed that there was quite a lot of solids floating in my aquarium water, which wasn't the case before. The only difference was that suction sponge. I am currently using two Aqueon filters in a large tetra aquarium. A few months ago I decided to add shrimp to my aquarium and was recently horrified to find my beautiful shrimp stuck to my filter.
